First Nation Communities READ is an annual Indigenous literary award launched in 2003 by the Ontario Library Service and the First Nation Public Library community in Ontario. Each year, books created by Indigenous authors and/or illustrators are nominated and considered by a jury of librarians from First Nation communities throughout Ontario.
The First Nation Communities READ Program awards excellence in Indigenous YA/Adult and Children’s literature. The creator of each selected title is awarded the Periodical Marketers of Canada Indigenous Literature Award along with a cash prize of $5000.
